Default Hurculiner

I decided to try it but was sceptical about going ***** deep and doing the whole bed right away. I decided to start with the tailgate give it a week, and then make a decision.

On top of the kit that comes with roller brush and scotch pad, I purchased a medium sanding block, some Scotch Blue/painting paper, steal wool, roller pan and Xylene.

Here is the tailgate before being prep

Spent about 2 hours preping by scuffing with the medium sanding block, used the scotch pad in corners, and the steal wool for rusty spots. Here it is after prep work but before tape and cleaning

Wipped down with Xylene, taped off, and first coat down. Used the brush to blot the edges and roller for the rest.

Waited about 40 minutes for the first coat to become tackey. I then applied a second and third coat, then stood around watching for spots where it began to pool up. I would hit those spots with the roller to spred it out until it was tackey enough to not run anymore. Pulled tape 40 minutes later.

Next morning, not quite %100 dry but here is the result thus far

The kit was $72 from Ace Hardware, it was $110 at carquest down the street. I think $13 for the gallon of Xylene, $10 for the Scotch Blue, $5 for a 3 pack of sanding bricks, $0.99 for the paint tray, $1 for the steal wool, $1.50 for the roll of paper. Oh, and don't forget the box of cemical protectant laytex gloves... $7. You don't want to get this stuff on your skin, as well as the Xylene.

Tell us how it holds up. Personally I'm not a fan of Herculiner, too rough for my taste. I prefer Monstaliner and Raptorliner.

Are we just naming things that are "tough" and putting liner on the end?

I really liked my current plastic bed liner it can really take a beating, but it's also rubbed a lot of paint off the bed and I had to cut it up a bit to clamp my topper. It's giving me a good project too.

The only thing I was not prepared for is Herculiner has a gloss finish when dried, I'm hoping that fades with use. I am going to get ahold of a power sander this week and spend some time after work preping the bed real well, maybe go for it on the 5th.

The recomended amount for a short bed is the 1 gallon that comes with the kit. For an 8ft bed it suggests the extra 1qt. I figured the thicker the better so went with the extra 1qt on my short bed (about $25).

Washed out my bed with a hose, dry, spent about 6-7 hours scuffing the bed well with the blocks, and removing rust with sand paper. I didnt have a sander so it was all by hand. I applied 2 coats to the whole bed, and a 3rd on the floor of the bed.

I got lazy no before and durring pics. Paint is still drying but here is the resultName: IMAG0038_zps1eff91f8.jpg
