You're the only person I've ever heard that had that many problems with a subi. Most just run for ever.

Jigabop,
What year is your S10? That old 4.3 engine a reliable one for sure! My dad one and it got to about 285,000 miles on it, and then my sister totaled it.

Also, what years did you have the Subi? Was it already an older / higher mileage car when you got it? I'm hoping for better luck with mine than you had with yours.

He has a 4 banger.

The old tbi 4.3 was great, others not so much. Same goes for the 350 though.

My 84 was excellent... the only thing I replaced was CV's at 129k Km (80k miles), and for how hard it was driven, I was very happy with that.

An acquaintance of mine built his flat 4 with dual turbo's and added fuel injection which required some machining of the heads.

I do not think there were any fancy computers in his car at all unless the fuel injection and maybe the turbo's required one {or more}

I do know the rusted hulk he put his rather expensive 1000 cc monster killer engine in really did not warrant all the money he put in the mill.

But, it did work and went crazy fast. When the rusted out body gave up the ghost he pulled the engine and transmission to put in something else. I think its probably still sitting in the back of his garage.

I was into VW beetles for some years in my youth. the type of air cooled engine they used was called a boxer, horizontally opposed, or flat four pretty interchangeably when like minded folks got together and would talk about their engines.

Sorry if my wording does not conform to yours.

Here is a link that might explain my confusion.
