The Official 2015 2nd Gen Ram OT Thread
Check with Nation's Auto Electric. They may either have the parts to upgrade your current alternator or can do it for you. They upgraded the 6V starter for my 1949 Allis Chalmers tractor to 12V with current, off the shelf components.
Mostly I wanted an AM/FM stereo in the old buggy and it was tough to find one that ran on 6V.
I was able to find a 12V blower fan for the heater and I replaced all the original 6V lights with compatible 12V versions but try as I might I simply could not find a 12V starter.
As winter approached and I knew I would be needing the Jeep to plow snow with I just used the original 6V starter.
I worried that higher voltage would eventually burn the starter up so I carried a spare with me every where I went. I used the old Jeep for at least 4 years with the same starter it came with {as far as I know}
When the world was a bit younger, I owned a 1947 Jeep. The Jeep started out as a 6 volt vehicle. Not long after I got it I converted it over to 12Volts because I wanted to be able to use the more commonly available 12 volt stuff available.

The work the other guy did on the distributor is nothing short of pure art work.
6V starters are rather beefy and can handle a 12V system *for a time. Radios, wiper motors, and other components will burn out in short order. The starter for my tractor was burnt out after 50+ years of use, so the rebuild & upgrade was warranted.

There were not many light bulbs in the dash. The headlights were no problem to replace with exact fit sealed beam 12V units {the 6V headlights I removed were sealed beam too}, same with the tail lights and turn signals.
Both systems use the same size sockets to put the bulb in so I did not have to replace them.
Naturally I had to replace the 6V generator to be compatible with the rest of the electrical system so I put a 90 amp Dodge alternator on it.
I put a lot of the older dodge alternators on vehicles over the years but now I prefer to use the GM 'single wire' alternators because they are easier to use most of the time.
If I recall correctly the original 6 volt generator was only rated at 25 amps, having the 12 V system made a real difference for me. Best of all I had an asswhackinmonsterkiller stereo in my ancient vehicle. The stereo could play plenty loud enough that I could hear it over the ambient rage of the vintage machine as I would be driving down the road.

Was this before or after the extinction of dinosaurs? Had Moses parted the seas yet?
My diesel truck got 14.92 MPG last weekend which is really good for me. Most times my truck gets around 13 MPG.
