Default Toyota Camry Hybrid would you buy?

My sis in law asked me this question. Its an 09 with 180k for 8k. I was like holly hell. But the car fax shows its been serviced at the same dealer every 5k miles give or take a few hundred miles. I about passed out thinking how much money that was. It has had every service done to that point. So forum members help me help her what do you all think?

What does it look like? Seems like a lot of money for a car that is getting near end-of-life.

Hybrid has batteries, right? How long do they last? Them things are expensive to replace.

I've done a bit of research on the Camry hybrid, but don't own one...

Your hybrid batteries last somewhere between 100k and 150k, so may be looking at a replacement there soon. And no, they're not cheap.

Hybrid means a lot of small garages won't touch them, so lots of dealer repairs.

Ebay motors usually has a fair number of hybrid camrys for sale, and it's not uncommon to see an 07 or 08 with half those miles for around 10-11k.

Compared to toyota's other hybrids, Camry gets 35-40mpg, Prius gets 45-50mpg. Prius also has nearly the same cargo room, shoulder room, and leg room while being cheaper. Of course, the Prius looks like a Prius, so there's that...

So, in summary, I would not go running in and slap $8k on the table tonight. If she can negotiate down to somewhere in the 6-7 range, and/or have them warranty the battery for another 50k miles, then it's a much better deal.

I drove a Prius once helping a buddy move a car to be worked on. He had me take his Prius while he moved the car. I would never drive one again; it was the most gutless thing I've ever driven. I'm not sure how the camry stacks up in that department, and your sister probably doesn't care.

I don't know, $8k is a lot of money. I just spent $5k on my ram and that's the most I've ever spent on a vehicle ever.

Thanks guys for the replies. She is picky on the looks and interior. Says its perfect. Not a dent scratch tear or stain. I've seen the maintenance records on carfax almost anything that wears has been replaced. Granted the hybrid battery is still original. The battery replacement I could do for her its pretty straight forward. The cost is anywhere from 1300 to 2500 depending. Sad thing here in California is actually priced accordingly. Citing Kbb Nada and Edmunds. Is there any other place to find real market values I've missed.

Those 3 are the main ones I've been using for comparisons. That, and I've just been doing a lot of research on like craiglist abou what people are listing things at.

You can spend less, get a non-hybrid, with fewer miles, and still get almost as good of gas mileage.....

I HATED driving my friends Prius...... I felt like I had to almost floor it off the line to even get the thing to move....

This entirely. The Prius is completely gutless. The only thing I liked about the one I drove is that the steering was super tight, and that was because the guy had replaced everything w/ poly bush.

Yes. The Prius is gutless. He's asking about the Camry hybrid though. Anyone actually drove one?
