I found some tow hooks on Ebay. They aren't the factory ones, but they are still tow hooks. I'm contemplating getting a set. Any thoughts on these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/111384076723?lpid=82&chn=ps
I know some have made their own brackets, but I'm not set up with a welder.

They look alright. I don't really like how they are closed hooks though.

 

200 bucks???? Geez. Surely you could Go to the local welding shop and getting something made much cheaper.

 

Local shops around here are 60+ bucks an hour..... So, 200 is probably pretty close.

Yeah, considering labor cost around here, and the face that the mounts mimic the factory brackets, that's not that bad.

I've been to junk yards in my area, nothing. I was at one the other day and all the Rams had been picked pretty clean. Not one truck had the door panels on it still. All the power windows were gone as well.

 

I would dearly like to meet the shop that would sit there and dimension, CNC cut, drill, bend, powdercoat and include all the hardware necessary for a one-off set of brackets with no CAD files available for $200. Any shop with sufficient equipment to attack such a task and replicate what is in the eBay ad would sooner laugh in your face.

As someone who has made his own set of these brackets I think $200 USD shipped is a fair price for what is included there. I do believe these kits were cheaper through Chrysler however they are long discontinued so good luck finding a set new or used. I made mine because I am into fabrication and get a thrill out of doing things on the cheap.

With regard to this kit, I am not a fan of how the full loops look and how far they stick out, but then function should trump form. The brackets are 1/4" as they should be and have all the characteristics that the Mopar brackets had including the long flag nut which is necessary for the 3rd frame bolt. The only thing I don't see is the gusset for the radius where the crossmember flange meets the "U", however I have only seen this gusset on one other set before (a later revision maybe?).

 

I went the front hitch route. $180 with lots of uses.
