Only if you're handicapped. Otherwise, you get to choose whether to pay or to walk.

That's me, I can't walk more than 1-2 blocks and then I'll be in pain for the whole time I'm at the event.

 

I'd guess that there are provisions for folks who can't make the walk from a distant parking place to the venue. Most folks probably just ride with someone who can drop them at the door before parking two counties away.

Don't get me wrong: I despise opportunists who'll take outrageous advantage of large events and the fools who reward them for it. But there's another bunch of fools around who'd get worked up into a screaming frenzy if the hated evil gubment were to regulate the greedy bastards, so all a reasonable man can do is cover his wallet as he skirts around the whole lot of them. Not that I claim or even aspire to be reasonable myself -- if it were up to me, there'd be no such thing as a large event venue that doesn't provide adequate free parking and facilitate the smooth flow of traffic to and from it. Good thing it's not up to me, huh?

 

Depends on whether you own the car, or the parking lot.

 

Attendees of said event are licencees and are therefore not entitled to free parking unless the venue has included parking in the price of the ticket (the license).

That being said, people who live near the University of Oklahoma will offer attendees of home games to park in their yard or driveway for a price. I am certain those who live closer to the stadium charge a higher price than those who live farther away (again, supply and demand + a premium for something of greater value). A private parking garage is no different and, quite frankly, so-called anti-price gouging statutes actually impede letting the free market operate effectively.

 

We don't have a free market, and the more we allow neoliberal economists to have their way with it the less free and more inefficient our economy becomes.

As an aside, I found a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4WD, automatic with cloth interior, 4.0L engine, and power everything with only 130K miles. Sales lot want $5995 and NADA says $4800. I'm going to make an effort to check it out, next week and maybe make an offer at the end of the month of around $5,400 or so. The upside is I bet insurance is cheaper than my Mazda, but the downside is mileage will be less. Then, the other upside, is repairs will run me less than the Mazda.
