I appreciate the offer, Wildman. I will seriously consider it and look into parts. Would be a nice break from the rain over here. Are you saying we could do both diffs for less than $3k? And what are those gaskets you speak of? I've only ever seen, read, or used what is OEM: rtv sealant. True, it would need a new posi, new bearings, etc.

And no, I would use 4.10s for my application. I have the NV3500 and I do mostly hwy and city driving. Never off-roading. The 4.10s match my trans with 33"s like 4.56 does for the autos. Plus I can reuse the carrier in the D44. I'm actually scared the 4.10s are too short and will kill my hwy mileage. (what little I have, haha)

But this is all academic. If it really will run that much, even DIY, it's probably not feasible. I've been using this combo (3.55 with 33s) since 2010 and about 100k so I'm used to it. $3k will go a long way for other things on a truck that is worth less than $2k. Like an engine. If I could DIY for about $1,500 I'd seriously consider it.

Thanks again for the offer and advice. Much appreciated!

Just did a quick search: here's a complete kit https://www.justdifferentials.com/94...m1500-4.11.htm

So labor is $2,300 huh? He said it would be done in one day. Let's see, 8 hrs divided into $2,300 comes to $287/hr. If I remove the cost for a posi ($500 according to Randys) it would be $225/hr. Nice try, Randy's.

They are just a nicer gasket that can be reused over and over again.

If one guy can re & re and properly set up two diffs in an 8hr day he deserves $225/hr. More than likely a guy on each axle. If Wildman is really up to what he says then that route is your best bet. Or just read up a lot online and the pertinent manual sections until you have it memorized, I have a (mostly complete...) thread of a gear swap posted.

Oxy,
I use to work for a few different dealerships and was the line mechanic for drivetrain. I have the tools to setup gears from the dial indicator to the inch pound torque wrench. I'm not going to say I can do both axles in one day. But a good mechanic can do two axles in one day.

Ramman shop around a little at other web sites for prices.
