WOW. Around here they are still getting $7500+ with 220,000+ miles on them for a 2500 as long as its 4wd that is, and usually they aren't in the nicest shape. 2wd trucks have no resale up here however.
I bought a 2001 2500 with a 12V auto swap but it came with the factory 24V manual for $400 only need a bed but I bought one for $150 with tailgate
I've seen a few rolled ones that run, they still want $2000 for those. Even ones with the cummins gone they still want $800 without many usable body parts.
That's insane. I just bought the truck for the body. I took the Cummins out and it's sitting in my scrap yard pile
You guys are funny. Check out Craigslist on the west coast. Anything Cummins commands crazy money. I just saw a 2nd gen on there today in Seattle area for 24k I $h!t you not. Can't ever find one under 15k even with 300k on it. If you can get a 2nd or 3rd gen for under 20k then buy it and flip it in WA, ID, or OR. You'll make a nice profit.
I would be willing to bet on a few years they will be restored and considered antique like the Chargers.
The longer I keep mine, the better it gets. New trucks suck. They have nothing to offer. Dial shifter? No thanks. Coil rear suspension? No thanks. Bad enough I have a track bar in the front now they think one in the rear is good??? ZERO ground clearance. My grandma's Caprice Classic has more clearance than a new 1500. No CD? No crank windows? No 4wd shifter? No 6 1/2 ft bed? No solid axle? No manual transmission? No iron engine heads? NO THANKS.
People absolutely love and crave the 90s jeeps and these are the same thing but bigger. 2nd gens will go down as famous as TJs, WJs, etc. Obvious already in the diesel world. I've wanted a 01-02 6spd cummins since I bought mine in 2001 but they keep getting out of reach. They are so old that no bank will loan on them so you have to have 15-20k cash ready to roll on a truck with 260k and all the same issues I've already fixed on mine. Just not feasible.

the new trucks are all about mpg and clean diesel emissions. That is what they do better. Air suspension is great but the components are to expensive, electronics for electronics sake.
Hard to justify $1000/month for 5years.
