Those factory speakers were never any good... add 20 years, its not like they're getting any better... drop a ben on a set of speakers, I think you'll be happy. If its still not loud enough, add an amplifier.

Any specific brand you like? I was thinking alpine, kicker, or boss. Then upgrade to Rockford Fosgate

Front speakers are the space constraint, work on figuring out what you want there... then match up the rears in power requirements (cause I know you're going to add an amp later). Have you looked at Crutchfield? They'll help you figure out what works for you.

I am going to give them a call. You can buy a 1" spacer to got deeper speakers you have about 1" 1/4 between the panel and the actual speaker. Rockford might be sponsoring my truck and that is the only way I'll get those speakers. I have to buy component (I think those are the ones with the tweeters) to use in the front. Someone needs to make a simple guide for us unintelligent folks

Hmm... that might do it.... I just snapped a couple pictures of a Kicker 6x9 vs the stock door speaker. The diameter of the magnet is much bigger, but the overall depth isn't all that much. Perhaps I'll order some spacers and see if I can horn those kickers in there... Then I'll be adding an amp - cause I'll need it to drive those.

Oh, here is some good info. I re-installed the receiver with the Metra 99-65-1 kit. Its a bit more substantial - I recommend the Metra one over the American International CK510.

Also save the money and make your own. Last I checked they were pretty expensive for a piece of plastic... If I go that route making mine out of wood and when I do make it I'll use longer screws and make sure the holes line up with the factory holes

$10 shipped for a pair, I think I'd buy them. Right now have tunes, and I've pulled those door panels off sooo many times that the clip brackets are starting to break in a couple areas... going to delay thinking about pulling them again for speaker swaps.

Get the neat little tool for popping them fellers out. Comes in rather handy for those clips, considering they are stronger, and hang on tighter, than the door panel can deal with...
