Hello guys I'm new on this forum. I have a Dodge ram 1500, 5.2L (Very well maintained). I recently changed the rear main seal and the oil leak still persist. I have read about off setting the seal, do you know if that will work better on preventing the oil leakage?

 

Is there a groove in the crank where the seal rides? Did you lube the seal good before installing it? I haven't seen an offset seal for these engines, but, that doesn't mean it isn't out there.

 

the crank is in a pretty good condition. i did lube the seal.

like this video says, i know it is not a dodge engine, just wanted to find out if this tip will work on dodge engines.

 

Did my seal couple years ago and it leaks exactly the same ever since. I off-set it in the bearing as well. Once something leaks, it leaks forever in my experience.

 

I always coated mine in RTV as Chrysler's instructions and never had one leak

 

You are supposed to put a little on the mating edges, And going around the outside is not going to hurt either. Then put a light coat of grease on the lips of the seal and the crank surface.

 

I always do it like that. I put a light coating all over it. A little grease and then go in like butter
