Default Looking For Header Recommendations

Anyone try making much power out of these trucks and play around with headers? Long story short I'm putting a Magnum 360 where an LA 318 used to be in a 85 W150. Carb swapped using an edelbrok Air Gap intake, 750 CFM carb(overkill and will be jetted down appropriately), and a mild cam. Going to be using it for mud racing with a 3000ish stall so I really don't need the low end power that much. This truck is going to live between 5000-6000 rpm.

As convenient as Shorty's would be I hear that they lack a bit of gain that I'd find on the higher end from long tubes. I also have the benefit that not being a street driven truck I have a little more freedom to make things fit where they should be.

Trying to pick between options for headers but really there's not many options out there. Kind of wondering what anyone else has been running or playing around with .

Long tube, pace setter brand, never really heard of them.

Shorty flow master's from Holley. Made for Magnums.

Orrrrr I've also seen a different option which is using LA headers on a Magnum engine. They don't quite line up properly but they're close enough that I could try to Dremel out the head to fit. Obviously not a great option but its there.

Pacesetter longtubes, off-road y-pipe, and three inch single pipe all the way back, with the muffler of your choice (if any) anywhere you care to put it.

Long-tubes ARE better for what you have in mind.

Well luckily for my circumstance the truck doesn't need a full exhaust so will just have headers and make all sorts of fun sounds without needing the full exhaust. It also makes things marginally easier when it comes to maintenance and install not having the Y pipe.

But I really hasn't hadn't heard much about pace setter brand before but the more I dig into it the more people seem to trust the brand.

They aren't 'the best', but, they are fair quality, and reasonably priced, that makes them popular.

I would be tempted to run enough pipe to get the outlets past the cab anyway. Even if you just put some turn-downs on the end. Keep you from getting gassed out. (If you don't have any glass in the cab, it's a lot less of an issue though. ) And yeah, open headers are LOUD.

You’re kidding there... ran mine headers only (moving it around the shop) before I put the rest of the exhaust on.
Very loud.
