oil catch cans
Recently had a conversation about oil catch cans. Can't seem to find any info about this subject.
I spent $20 on one several years back n installed it on my '96 Ram 1500/5.2.My experience with one has been positive. HOWEVER, my cat was gutted years before the addition of my catch can, prolly due to oil contamination and breakage due to exhaust back pressure/heat/age, so I have no evidence to back up my claim that a catch can can help with cat life extension. Any one have experience or info about whether they're a good defense towards getting the cat to last longer?

On these trucks, with a 'real' PCV valve, running a genuine mopar valve is the best bet. They actually have the correct flow rate, so, the catch can isn't really necessary. Having one sure doesn't hurt anything though.
Most cats die a horrible death due to plenum being blown though. You get a LOT more oil intrusion that way, than the PCV system could even think about.
