I always like to add rear facing floodlights for reversing in the dark. These were just some tiny surface mount "rock lights" from Harbor Freight.
How come they aren't tied in to the reverse lights?

You may not always need them. Also being able to turn them on as work lights in the dark could be handy.

I did some stuff. Badland Apex 12000 winch, Bennys 4x4 bumper.

Had to make a new hood release latch because the winch was in the way

Went to the Gambler 500 in Oregon

Someone's 22RE Toyota blew the head so I towed it to their campsite.

Had an embarrassing moment making 4 attempts to get up a super steep hill in 4H and a lifted Crown Vic got a running start and made it in one go. I think I maxed out my torque converter and shoulda done it in 4L, or my vacuum leak is more severe than I thought, because I couldn't get the motor to go beyond 1500 rpm at the steepest part.

I like the blue truck in front, but the rear one is a no go.

Haven't done much to the truck recently, but I did get a Softtopper camper and immediately got 3 compliments on my crappy ol' truck when I brought it to work.

Have not had the time to diagnose the sluggishness under load, but I got a few pointers:
- Clean MAP and TPS diagnostics, clean MAP
- Check the fuel pressure
- Tighten shifter linkage
- Fix that dang vacuum leak, which I haven't been able to find!

If I can't find a fuel tank skid plate I'm gonna have to make my own. And I need a transmission skid plate. Some rock sliders, and I'm pretty much finished building out the truck.

I'm gonna take it out to a trail in the Sierra pretty soon for camping, so I'm gonna try to tackle some of this.

See if you can find an off-road edition truck in a junkyard somewhere. It should have the skid plates you need... And so far as I know, they were the only trucks that got 'em.

Your *beater* is in better shape than my daily driver. But, I live in the rust belt too...... and it shows.

My '96 isn't a special "off road" edition that I know of. I'm not sure about my fuel tank but I have a skid plate under my transmission. It's on a bracket underneath it. I have one granite out crop on my farm that it drags over if I'm not careful.

I don't think the Off Road Edition trucks were a thing until 98 or so..... Skid plates may have been an option, but, apparently, VERY few folks ticked that box when ordering trucks, as I have only seen them on the ORE fellers.

I have a '96 Chevy K2500HD parked next to the Ram and it has a bunch of skid plates. A light one under the radiator and a heavy one under the front end protecting the front axle. If it was a gasser, I'd probably replace the Ram with it.
