I own a 98 Ram ( See sig) and the driver's door lock will work sometimes and then not. Passenger side always work. I can hear the mechanism when I hit the button but that driver's door will not lock or out of the blue it will work. Any suggestions?

Mine does the same thing, except opposite. (My pass door lock is moody where-as my driver's side works flawless). I believe it's the switch itself.

 

My 98 does the same thing on the driver side, I was told it was the actuator. Don't know if that is right.

 

Mine did the same thing... I took the panel off the door and sprayed it all with penetrating oil.....works great now!

 

Thanks for the info, I'll try the penetrating oil and if that doesn't work then I'll try replacing the actuator.

 

by the way....the clips holding the door panel on were really hard to get off without breaking something. I cut some with a hacksaw blade and replaced them with new ones so I didn't have to pry on them and break anything. If your door panel has been off this probably won't be an issue.

I think their is a special tool for it ....but I don't own it.

 

The solenoid is going bad, get it at any parts store. Easy to fix.
