Default Tranny/Engine Swap?

Hey guys quick question here,

I was looking through the local ads here and found some parts for sale it's an engine and transmission from a 1996 ram pickup V6 3.9 automatic. They apparently run great so i was wondering if it is possible to swap that trans for mine thanks

I'm not sure why you would want to do that? It'll be an expensive transfer and you'll get worse preformance, and probably the same gas mileage.

Im pretty sure the transmission from a v6 won't work with a v8

I'm pretty sure it would bolt right up but the question is ... why?[>:] You'd be trading a 46RH for a 42RH. The 42RH isn't found behind the V8's for a reason.

oh my bad, I thought for sure when people upgraded from a v6 to a v8 they needed a new transsmission. I figured it would be the same for reversal.

An upgrade to a V8 DOES need a new transmission ... that's the point. The "2" in 42RH is the relative strength of the tranny. You don't want to replace a 46 series with a 42 series from behind a V6.
