Tires on a 1500
A customer at work i have wants to put the biggest possible tire size on his 1500. I think its a 98 or 99 and does not have the sport package with the plastic bumper. Sorry for making the post, but i didn't have time to look through being i have to get to class. Anyway, what would be the largest tire i can get him, large as in wider and taller, with a semi-aggressive tread that will fit on the truck with out rubbing. I know my friend has had 33"s on his, but they rubbed the control arm. Thanks for your help,
Joe

How can you possibly determine the diameter of a tire by simply listing the tread width?
You might also want to take into consideration both the rim diameter as well as the sidewall aspect ratio.
Maybe I'm just thinking too hard!

I have LT 285 75 16's on my '99 truck and they dont rub at full lock, or least I have not noticed any rub. They are the Cooper Discoverer s\t 's and have a pretty aggressive look to them but are considered a semi off-road tire. They handle nice in the wet and snow. Here's a close-up of the tire in case your interested in that brand.

I also have 285 on my truck and they don't rub. The tread is more aggresive then most street tires. but they arn't nobbies

I have 305/70/16 tires on my truck, and they only rub at full-lock, doesn't bother me. Although, sometimes in a parking lot i turn the tire too much, it rubs, makes a horrible sound, and i get a bunch of dirty looks.
To answer TurboABA, the common vernacular around the forum stipulates that when someone refers to just the metric tire width, ie 245, 265, 285, etc, they are referring to a tire with a sidewall ratio of 75% and a standard rim size of 16 inches. Down, boy.
To answer the original question, I'm running 285/75R16 Pro Comp M/T's on stock suspension with no rubbing, even at full lock.
