Default Good transmissions?

ok so got a quote to rebuild my transmission today for 1500-2k maybe more. So possibly going with installing a reman tranny. Cause i can get a decent tranny for 1500 bucks or so and install it myself. Ide just rebuild one myself but ya not that good with transmissions. So i guess ill get to my point here, Where can i get a good transmission with a warranty? im trying to keep this under like 1500 bucks. I found this http://www.tomsrivertransmissions.com/id1.htmlbut I'm waiting for them to reply idk if they have a warranty. Just wondering what trannys people are running in there trucks. and wherei can get one?I wanna do a little wheeling with it. nothing hardcore so i dont need the best of the best but ide like a better than oem tranny.

Just purchased the Pure Evil transmission from dr evil transmissions from Chicago. I ordered it on Tuesday morning and picked it up at the local freight dock on Friday. Packaging was extremely well done, hard ABS molded plasticwith a tranny strap that held my new transmission perfectly.Purchase price of tranny, HD torque converter, deep (4 extra quart) aluminum tranny pan, 24 quarts of redline C+ tranny fluid, new large transmission cooler, and delivery ($2,350.00) I am having it insalled Tuesday.

Here is the link to the website http://www.dreviltransmissions.com/home.html

Dr Evil Trasmissions is a subsidiary of Roadmaster Transmissions of Chicago. Here is their website link: http://www.roadmastertranz.com/transmissions.htm

If you're looking for a non-high performance tranny I would recommend calling them also. So far I am extremely pleased with how I have been treated, the speed with which I received my new tranny, and the shipment method they used. I'll know in a few weeks how the new tranny will work out.

Turkey Hunter how's that Dr.Evil tranny working so far? I believe my tranny has gone south as was looking on their site based on your link. Prices seem very resonable compared to others I have seen. Please let me know. Thanks

So far it's doing great. The shifts are pretty hard so I would recommend you ask he dial them back just a little bit. My mechanic said it installed very easily with no problems at all. He's never seen a transmission pan as large as the one on my tranny though. This new tranny took 12 quarts of fluid. I picked up the truck on Friday and have already driven about 300 miles. It sure lets the power go straight to the ground. Manually shifting from a stop light she takes off like a streak of lightning. Manual shifts and automatic shifts between gears are quick and firm. No more of that soft and gentle stuff here. When she shifts she shifts.

I'll provide more info as I get more miles on it but here is what I purchased.

Dr. Evil - Pure Evil Transmission
Included custom made towmaster converter
4 qt extra deep tranny pan
Heavy Duty Transmission Cooler
24 qts Redline C+ transmission fluid.
Total Price: $2350.05
Freight (both ways) $105
Core Charge: $350

I picked the transmission up at the R&L Freight terminal dock.

I provided him the specs on my engine including the full cam specs which he requested.

The shipment case is hard ABS plastic, very solid, and has a strap on the inside to hold the tranny in place during shipment. The torque converter is shipped mounted to the tranny and uses a steel brace to hold it in place.

I ordered the transmission on Tuesday 4/3 around 10 am and it was at the R&L freight dock in Minneapolis first thing Friday morning 4/6. Unbelievable service.

So overall, and so far, I am extremely satisfied with his product and product knowledge. Like I said call Billy (the owner of the company and the person that does the performance bids) and talk to him. He is very easy to talk with and has unbelievable knowledge of these trannies. Tell him Bob McClelland sent you.

Good luck.

Bob,
Thanks for the positive feedback. Mine is a 2000 Ram 2500/5.9 all stock. This is my 1st Dodge. Bought it with 44,000 miles 4 yrs ago now has 77,000. Only tow 2-3 times a year 7000-8000# Toy Hauler. Never use OD to tow. The truck has been pretty good. Serp. Belt tensioner, A/C Evaporator had to be done. Did put on Bilstein shocks. I like the truck, but man never thought the tranny would go away already. I did the fluid & filter change along with band adjustments. Rear adjustment went fine, but front band adjuster just going in and in till it was half way inside the lock nut, sound like broken band. If I'm taking the tranny out I want something that will last and be up to the towing. What other mods have you done? I am new to this site and have doing alot of reading on other members vehicles. Sounds liek throttle bodies, HS 1.7 seem to be pretty common. Any info you'd like to shre I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Ed

You can click on the cardomain link in my profile to see everything I've done. Have some more pictures but need to reduce their size as they're too big to upload onto this site. Should have them up later this week.

[ul][*]Most guys have opted for either the K&N FIPK Cold Air Intake or the newer round Mopar filter.[*]Hands down preference is for the Fastman (Dan Arkand) modified throttle bodies. If you only tow a couple times a year, go with the 52mm, otherwise it's recommended to go with the 50mm if you tow a lot.[*]The Harland Sharp 1.7 non-adjustable roller rockers will definitely add power andare also fairly easy to install.[*]The intake plenum gasket has a habit of leaking and this will cause a distinct loss of power. You have to pull the intake manifold to fix this, so most of us have replaced the plenum plate with a billet aluminum one from one manufacturere or the other. Also Fel-pro gaskets are the gasket of choice. You can tell if yours is leaking by oil pooling on the plenum plate. Look through the throttle body to see this. A thin film of oil is OK, but pooling oil is not.[*]A lot of us have opted for updating our ignition by installing a version of the MSD Ignition System and Blaster Coil.[*]A cat back exhaust will help some also, some are ready fit direct replacements of your stock exhaust.[/ul]
