as far as i know you just use plain old green anti-freeze (ethylene glycol). the red stuff if Dex-cool and i think its only for GM products and i think it sludges up bad. i just did my water pump and drained the block using the drain plugs beside the motor mounts. i bought 2 gal of full strength and mixed it 50/50 and used about 3 gal of mix. mix with distilled water to avoid mineral deposits.

I drained out the green stuff and replaced it with orange. It lasts longer and is supposed to extend the life of your seals and pump bearings. Besides ... it looks like Tang. [&:]

IIRC, Chrysler tried Dexcool and it reacted with some of the components in engines and destroyed them. My 2002 Cavalier came out of the factory with Dexcool and I've never had a problem. The car now has 131K miles. I know that the GMC Jimmy and S10 Blazers had problems with Dexcool. Also, if you try to switch from green coolant to orange, or vice versa, and don't *thoroughly* flush the engine they will react with each other and sludge the water jackets.

I recommend sticking with regular green coolant.
