Default Won't shift into Park

I have 2001 2500 with a 5.9. Yesterday, I put about 150 miles on and it shifted fine. This morning I went to run an errand and the truck wouldn't shift from first to second without letting up on the gas sharply. After that it will shift through all the gears normally. Then, the next time starting from a stop it will do the same thing. So, when I got to my destination, I tried to shift into park and it wouldn't go in. The lever stops just short of park. If I let it roll a little while pushing up on the shifter, I can hear it trying go into park. Looked at the linkages under the truck and everthing seems to work fine (no binding anywhere). Kick down cable also operates smoothly. I was just wondering why one day everything works fine, and the next day it suddenly doesn't. Any suggestions as to what to look for or what could be causing this?

I just had mine rebuilt because of this problem. I believe he said the 2nd gear band something or other falls and jams up the shifter.

Any ideas on the no park thing? Should be getting other parts today, what should I look for while switching them out?

Default Auto Trani Won't shift into Park and Shifting issue

I have 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 Diesel. All of the sudden my truck wouldn't shift from first to second without letting up on the throttle and then easing into the throttle again to engage 2nd gear. After that it will shift through all the gears normally. So, when I got home, I tried to shift into park and it wouldn't go in. The lever stops just short of park. I looked at the linkage under the truck and everthing seems to work fine. I did not hit anything that I could recall infact I was driving through the neighborhood no more than 25 miles an hour. When I tried to get on to a 45 mile an hour road that's when I noticed my problem. Anyone have any suggestions or fix it ideas that I can try? Thanks for the Help!

Probably dropped a band strut or anchor like was previously mentioned. Now that piece is jamming up the linkage internally.
