Default Summit Cat-Back exhaust system?

Hello, I'm finally wanting to do exhaust on my truck. However, I'd like to stay cheap. What I'm looking for is a nice sound, doesn't need to be real loud, but I definitely want to hear it when accelerating. However, I don't want anything that's gonna make my mileage worse.

Anyway, I was thinking of simply swapping out the muffler and using the stock pipes and all.
Or, going with like this, Summit Cat-Back
or maybe their single outlet system. Has anyone tried the summit stuff?

Any problems with either of those routes?

My neighbor has exhaust on his sierra denali (don't hate, it's an extremely nice looking truck after what he's done to it) that I think is perfect. Could be a bit louder, but I'll ask him what set-up he's running next time I see him.

That's a good idea, I'm going to do the same. My biggest problem is choosing between the Magnaflow or Dynomax muffler!

Yeah, I had considered that too, since it's looking like it'd be $350 to have a shop install it, with a good muffler. Or I could just get that, install it myself, and get like a flowmaster later for cheaper.

One thing I'm not sure on, is the diameter of the pipes... what does a larger or smaller dia. do?

Thanks towguy. You think 2.5" would be good for the 5.9L if I'm wanting duals, and want it to be fairly loud, but not too loud?

2001mustang_gt, how did the summit cat-back system sound compared to the flowmaster 40?

Uh-oh, I just read under "Exhaust Fiasco" thread that some fellows have had problems with the Summit kit.

2001mustang_gt-did you have any problems with fit or otherwise? When did you buy your kit? Did you do the work yourself? By the way, your truck sounds good with BOTH systems, The Flowmaster sounds better, though. Maybe the deeper, fuller tone?

My final plan is/was to get the 3" cat-back SISO Summit kit and replace that muffler with a Magnaflow #12289. My truck is 2WD,2001 QC, 5.9L with long bed.
