Default Line X question....

I have a reg cab long bed 4x4 95 Ram 1500, its silver and my paint is quickly chipping and peeling away... I think Maaco wants 750$ to repaint it, but its a work truck and Im not too thrilled about scratching it. So would it be worth the extra money for a Line X paint job on the whole exterior? I cant find much info for guys that have sprayed the whole truck. Can anyone help me out with suggestions, and what to expect for cost? Pics would be great too. Thx.

Its going to cost you more than $750 to have Line X spray your whole truck. I wanted them just to do my rockers and they wanted $600.I dont think it would becost effective to have the whole truck sprayed; But if you did some extreme off-roading you would not have to worry about scratches though....

It would probably be VERY expensive. I just had a "Macco" style paint job $900 CDN and the bed sprayed with line-x $600 CDN. One thing for everyone to keep in mind that is when you get a cheap paint job the line-x guy can't spray it over the rails because the paint will peel right off with the super tape they use. I ended up just getting it in the box but I am still kinda mad at myself for not getting it done before the paint job so I could have the over the rail protection.

Macco = ****ty. They're not gonna take the time to sand it down. They spots where your paint is chipped off will show through on the new paint job. If your looking for cheap route do all the prep work yourself and buy the materials. Just have a cheap shop spray it. Buy some primer, sealer, and single stage paint. Single stage paint is extremely cheap and good for a work truck.

A guy I used to work with had a Volvo station wagon and he got his hood line x'ed and asked about getting the rest of the car done and I think they told him something like $2000 but I'm not 100% positive. To me if you don't want to scratch it and don't care what it looks like go with that but if you are like me and care what it looks like I'd go with a nice paintjob. You can get a nice paintjob for $2000.

+1,
just repaint it. If it was inside the bed of your truck you were only worried about then id say Line-X it.However, ahunting buddy had the rockers and upper wheel well trim sprayed with painted line-x, as well as the rear bumper. It was expensive, but looks nice.

You guys are prob right.... Ive planed on the Maaco job for a while but Ive seen a few pics of the line x'ed trucks and they look good. I just like the thought of never scratching it, never having to worry about it on job sights, and clean up time is the lawn hose.

I planed on doing all the prep work, remove all the trim, bumpers, lights ect, fill dents and holes... and sand the whole thing down especially where the paint is coming off. That quote is with that price and that also included extra paint from the loc Maaco dealer. I know that it will look about a million times better than it does now but, the idea of a not fuss finish is a good one.

98RAM2500, knowing what you know now what would you do different???? And I think that it looks good!

I would have had the line-x sprayed on the factory paint over the rails and then had the paint shop paint up to it. I thought I was helping out the paint shop by leaving it until after but it didn't occur to me that the tape they use on the line-x was that strong. Overall though for a total "investment" of $1500.00 I am pleased especially with the line-x they did an excellent job.

I have no real idea what the line-x guy's would charge to paint a whole truck butI bet it would be really cool, the guy had a pop can covered with the stuff that that was amazingly tuff....cool demo!
