Has to be something in the steering pump. Does the wheel try to kick back at you when you turn it?

My truck used to make the same sound and it was my steering pump. I went through like 3 of them so far on my Ram. One was jsut faulty but I blew one doing a donut lol. I would get it fixed quick before it goes because then it is a bitch to turn the wheel unless the truck is moving.

If it is the steering pump, wouldn't the noise get faster as the engine rpm increases? This is not the case with me. The noise seems to come from passenger side near or below the dash.

Not necessarily. Does the noise get louder when you turn the steering?

This IS a 12 year old thread...... Might wanna start your own, let us know what you are driving, and what your symptoms are.
