Hypertech PPIII Results UPDATED
Yeah I picked mine up on ebay for $125 I think. Also look for the superchips version for your truck. I think it would be nice to have the torque management removed.
Well its hard for people to say because they usually just get one of them. But my hypertech has been a great improvement in mileage. Haven't noticed any performance change or anything else, but I did use it to calibrate speedometer for my 285's. The superchips from what I hear stops the TC from locking up in third which will help you around town; you won't have to apply more gas to get the truck moving at a reasonable speed again like when you do when the TC locks up and your RPM drop. I honestly would like to try that and see how it is. Keep an eye out for both of them on ebay and other places to get a used one, you could always resell it. And make sure the previous owner returned his vehicle back to the stock setting so it can be used again.
Did you change out your thermostat too with the hypertech?
I have been told its best to change the thermostat and go with dual exhaust and a high flow air intake with it.
I already have the airiad on my truck andhave headers in the box waiting to be put on with some nice duals.........

I think the difference that you'll notice from either depends on whether or not you have the death flash. I had it and noticed a big difference from the Superchips. Nothing even close to the B&G flash though. You'll get alot more out of a flash than you will either the Hypertech or Superchips. I have a B&G flash and a Tom Fox flash. After I got my injectors straight, I found that Tom Fox nailed the fuel delivery, but his flash runs about 10* less timing at wot. B&G was a little off on the fuel (nothing the arc-1 tuner couldn't take care of), but timing was way better. The B&G flash is faster. IMO, if you're going to throw some $ into your pcm, you'll be alot happier spending a little extra for a flash.
No I didn't change the thermostat although I have a 180* one in the garage that I'm thinking about using. I have dual exhaust and the round air cleaner also. I'm bringing the truck into the shop monday for an oil change, coolant flush, and to check out a problem I'm having so I might just have them do the thermostat since they are gunna be messing with that anyway. Thx for reminding me.
Another update. The truck was in the shop and in the process got a new front O2 sensor and a 180 thermostat installed. So taking into account everything, my last fillup was:

I was pretty shocked when I saw that one. I am experiencing less ping with my new 180 thermostat installed. This is the best the truck has ever been running, going from 10-11 mpg when I first bought the truck (and even a couple of months ago) to this. I can only imagine what I could get on the highway, as this is normal driving.

When you tune with the programmer, it will store the factory settings along with vin#. If you try to tune another pcm with a different vin# it will not work. When you restore the originalpcm that the programmer was used onto the factory settings, the original vin will be erased from the programmers memory. So, one vin# at a timeto each programmer.
