Default Flame me if ya want....I don't care.

So, I've got a 2001 5.2 Ext Off-Road Ram
I love the truck, it's great for hauling, towing moderately, and seems to be well built. The problem with the vehicle is that it is too high for my elderly grandmother to get in and out of. I have running boards, but they are in an awkward position and she still can't get it and out that great. I really could care less if the truck is lifted, it's not going off-road, it's just used for hauling, working, and possiblity plowing. I have a summer car that is stored during the winter, so the truck is my primary during the winter. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this as CHEAP as possible? Anyone have any idea which components need to be swapped out to make it the height of all other 4x4 Rams?
Thanks in advance.

im assuming you want to lower your ram? is this your gaol? being a 4X4 im not sure how to go about it.... maybe someone could chime in..

i cant see you getting flamed for this question.. you have a very good reason for doing this.. id do the same .. or atleast find some kind of solution if i were in your predicament. good luck

-Swap out your front coils for ones from a stock 4x4 (non-offroad edition). That will lower it about 1.5"
-Then, swap your tires for something like 245/75/16. That will buy you another .5-1.0"
-Then, buy better (lower hanging) running boards.

Keep a step stool in the bed

The reason I thought flaming would occur is that people generally freak out when people want to "lower" or in my case return to stock height a 4x4.
Silver dodge - Won't lowering just the front 1.5" look a little unlevel? Is there anyway to lower the rear to the height of a non Off-road package truck?

Bander - That's actually a pretty easy solution, I might try that.

Our church has the same problem with our vans, we do like bander suggested, just keep a (fold up) stool in the vehicle. It would be a lot cheaper and better than messing up the truck!!

Yes, it might be a little unlevel at that point, but I didn't think you would care based on your original post. You could take it to a suspension shop and have them de-arch the rear leaf pack so it sits level again.

I guess that I'll end up looking into the step stool idea, because it seems a lot cheaper, and easier.
Thanks for all the replies so fast!

On my boat, I keep a little two step stool lashed to the lifelines for this purpose. It was~$10 @ wally world. It has wide steps, is very sturdy, and has held up to salt spray, sun, and storms for three years. I would think it would hold up pretty good just tossing it in the bed and letting it ride until you need it.

This is the one. Mine is white(sun):
