where is cyl 4??
Hey everyone!! Ive been having problems with my 1998 dodge ram slt laramie 360. It has lost power. I went to auto zone today and they told me i had a misfire on cylinder #4. I just replaced the plugs last week so im thiunking the spark plug is either cracked or bad, or the wire is bad. What is the cylinder arrangement for a 360. Where is cyl #4. The wires numbers are different then the actual cylinder??
Thanks
Thanks

i appreciate everyone's comments. Thanks, it helped alot. Ill be fixing the problem tommorow now that i know where it is at. I really need to get a service manual. What do yall reccomend??
Thanks again!!
Thanks again!!
i've been wondinering how the PCM knows where the misfire is also...i'm guessing it's one of two things. one is that it just looks for spikes in rpm from the crank/cam position sensors, and knowing where the crank is in it's cycle determines which cyl the misfire is in; the other is monitoring ignition coil primary spikes. there are scope setups you can use on ignition systems to determine misfires; you can see all kinds of things from ignition spikes. it's possible the computer monitors primary coil voltages (coil is just a transformer, what's on the secondary is on the primary) or currents and watches for spike patterns that would indicate a misfire, and again knowing where the crank is in it's cycle, detects a misfire. anyone know for sure?

They pulled thecode out with the actron scanner. Those things are awesome and i think we all need to get one. You just plug it underneath the dash and in 10 seconds it told me that it was cylinder number 4 misfire. Yeah, off topic sort of but really how does the pcm know??
My pcm was seeing a random misfire and after messing with the distributor position I fixed the problem.Guess it put the cam sensor in sync with crank sensor. Gained alot of power also!
