Default crunchy sounds

Hey guys, new to the site...I like what I've seen so far...here's my problem...
99 1500 4x4 5.9l
I hear and feel a crunchy soundwhen taking off from dead stop with steering wheel turned (does not happen when going straight) It is at it's worst when backing up with a trailer or backing up hill and turning. tranny does not seem to slip, it's just an unnerving feeling. Hard to tell for sure but it feels like it's coming from the front end. There is no play when pushing and pulling on wheels with truck jacked up. Only happens at very slow speeds (under 10mph or so). Any suggestions as to where I should start looking?

Maybe try lubing the ball joints? I know on the 2002 and newer the ball joints can have problem making this type of noise. try spraying wd40 inside the boots on the lower ball joints.

Front u-joints? maybe theyare going bad. try looking for grease zerks on them and greasing them, sometimes they dont have zerks on them unless they are aftermarket.
