Default 1995 Dodge Ram 5.9 l. Fuel / stalling problems.

My 1995 Dodge Ram is having stalling problems and I do not know what it is related to... this is what happens:
The truck starts no problem and idles well and then drives well for about 15 minutes to half and hour. I can boot the gas during this time and there is losts of power on the road with no problems what so ever.
Then the truck starts loose power and when I press on the gas foot feet I have no power at all or very little - while doing this (pressing the gas) the truck starts to sputter and pop and I hear a hollow sounding popping noise - like backfiring - coming from the motor.
Then the truck stops and will not restart. It also does this when the truck is driving up hills... looses power and stalls etc.

Is there a fuel filter onthe frame somewhere? I bought a new fuel pump - but my dad said that if it was the fuel pump then the truck would not start at all.

The truck starts no problem when it is cold or even after about an hour or so after the last stall... then it does the above all over again.

In addition, when I try to get a boost... there seems to be no power going through the battery cables (the ones from the battery to the motor) so I cannot even get it to turn over - sometimes this happens and sometimes it does not.

I live in a small community in the Arctic and the closest garage is around 700 km away... if there are any suggestions on how I could fix it - I would really appreciate it. Up here - a guy cannot live without a truck.Thanks.

You have a cunnundrum! 1st: it sounds like an open loop/closed loop problem in that cold, it starts and runs ok. Thats the computer giving it general cold operating instructions. Then when it warms up and goes into closed loop the fun begins! Sorry, I know it's not fun. It's getting bad feedback from a sensor or sensors that's messing things up. Is the engine light on? Codes? Without them you're just shooting in the dark and will end up throwing money away just looking for things. Without any codes, I would start at the EGR system. A plugged EGR valve or faulty EGR controller will cause backfiring. The fuel filter is in the fuel tank with the pump. This doesn't come across as a fuel thing to me. When you crank and no start, have you checked for spark at the coil and plugs? Maybe something is getting hot and killing spark like maybe the distributor. Bad bearings in the dist. will cause irratic movement and therefore spark signal that may only be apparent when the distributor gets hot. This will also cause your engine to backfire. Another sensor to look at is the Crank sensor. It controls your timing. Check the battery, cables, and connections too. I think you can see where this is going. Without the trouble codes you could throw money at this problem all day long. Which in your land could be a long long time.
Sorry, there I go again. Let us know what you find.
Hope this helps.
