Default Noisey rear end

Hello again:
I have a new issue with my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 (5.9 liter V8, 2wd), that Iam curious about. I'vehad the truck now for about 3-1/2 years and this is really the first bigproblem I have noticed with it. I recently returned from a vacationroad trip Georgia-to-Minnesota and back. Going up was no problem but, after we came back I started hearing a whurring bearing sound coming from the rear end. I jacked up the truck on jack stands and put the vehicle in drive and heard the noise definitely from the rear end. A friend of mine told me that it maybe the pinion bearingbecause I happen to have the notorious 9.25 differential. The truck still runs great except for it being noisey now. Is this something that I shouldbe very concerned about and have fixed very soon? I like the truck very much and it drives great despite it's gas mileage. I generally use my truck just for pulling my pop-up camper when I go camping and hauling things around the house. Any input from anyone would be great. Thanks.

Hey: Spend some time and inspect the outer bearings, seals, and where the axles go thru the bearings, then work into the differential itself...... My buddies Durango stared making the same noise, we changed the diff fluid and all was well for about 2 days, then the noise came back >>> it has been a little noisy for 13 months and so far, no problems...... Let me know what you find.....BC

The 9 1/4 and 8 1/4 pinion bearings are a common problem, Ck with dealer and see if you still have warranty. If not, replace the pinion bearings and side bearings too. Also ck for metal clip on the maganet. If the clips are broken from the pos clutch you will need a carrier too.
