Oxygen Sensor - Part SG229
Could someone please tell me if this is correct.
Check Engine light comes on.....OBDII pulls Code PO133. (o2 Sensor CKT Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 1)
I tell the Advance Auto Parts gentleman to give me the part needed.
I receive this: http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...rtNumber=SG229
My question to all of you is:
Is this the sensor that goes into the exhaust pipe or the one that goes into the catalytic converter? I see two 02 sensors within 2 feet of each other. The one in the cat converter looks all sorts of corroded. What do you think?
Thanks, Jeff

This is the problem with DTCs. They get you in the ballpark, but you have to find your own seat. Sorry, I know that's not much help. Without an advanced (no pun intended) code reader, the only way to know which sensor it is, is to test the individual O2 sensors. Otherwise, you're just throwing money at the problem which may infact be somewhere else. You see, the O2 sensor only tells the PCM that the system is rich or lean, not that which is making the mixture rich or lean. That having been said, I would suspect the front sensor 1st as the rear one merely tells the PCM that the cat. is doing its job or not. Again, that's if the sensor is REALLY at fault. Good luck.

This part does in fact fit into the front one correct? Not the one in back of the truck (more like middle).
I remember replacing the one in the back not too long ago but just had my clutch replaced and the guy admitted to disconnecting the o2 sensor---and now light is on and engine bogs and idlesat near zero.He gave me the part for free (i guess assuming heknowingly damaged it) so i will be putting it my self. Should i just try putting in the front one?

you need to communicate what year and model and engine your truck is.
follow your link to partsamerica - shopping. put in your year, model, drive, engine, etc and it will show you that the part in your link above is the 'upstream' cat (before the cat), and there is a different one listed for 'downstream'. a good way to check is remove the old part and compare it to the new one. compare size, shape, wire length, # of pins, etc. if it doesn't match, don't use it. most of the 'universals' require some wiring effort. the OE's (original equipment) are pre-wired and is what you should use. the pre-cat o2 does all the work and tells the pcm what to do, and if bad, causes running problems. the post-cat o2 just tells the pcm whether the cat is in place and doing its job and the worst thing it can do is turn on cel.

Save yourself some money and get them here. I've been using them for years.

I have some updated information that will help you answer my question.
The sensor that needs replacing is the one in the Y-Pipe. I dont know if this is downstream or upstream.
As i mentioned, the guy gave me SG229, made by Standard Motor Products. This is the Upstream Sensor. Will this one fit correctly into the Ypipe or do i need the Downstream sensor??? Or does it not matter where it is used (i believe this would be considered Universal)?
97 Ram 1500, 5.2L, 318, 5spd.
thanks, Jeff

think of the exhaust as a river, flowing from the engine out the tail pipe. The o2 in/around the Y pipe is the 'upstream' sensor (upstream of the cat. pre-cat, bank 1 sensor 1). The o2 after the cat is the 'downstream' sensor (post-cat, bank 1 sensor 2).
yes it will fit in the Y pipe. unplug the wire harness, squirt wd40 or pb-blaster on the threads, and unscrew it.
it should only be used in the Y pipe (upstream). the downstream one listed is a different part number. something is different, maybe wiring, connector, heated or not, etc.
try it and see if it works. try not to destroy your original just in case.
