Somthing new: 3rd gen spoiler on a 2nd gen.
A guy on another forum sent me the small spoiler (not the Daytona spoiler) he had laying around in his garage off his 3rd gen Ram. This is the new spoiler you see on most new trucks, presumably to help with gas mielage. I wanted to see if it would fit and how it would look on a 2nd gen Ram. Also curious to see if it nets any MPG changes, but I am not holding my breath.
Well guess what, it fits.....sort of. I have a drop in bed liner with a seperate peice that covers the inside of the tailgate and wraps over the top of the tailgate. With this in place, the spoiler fits pretty good. I think on a bare tailgate, it would not fit flush because the tailgate by itself would not be thick enough. 3rd gen tailgates must be thicker then 2nd gen.
Here's some pics of it just sitting in place. It would pull up against the metal better if I installed it perminantly with screws and 3M. It would also need a notch cut to allow access to the tailgate handle. Otherwise, it fits pretty good. I just haven't decided if I like how it looks, and if I want to put screws in my tailgate. What do you all think. I saw a 2nd gen this morning with a 3rd gen Daytona spoiler on it, and it looked terrible. I don't think this looks too bad though.

RE: Somthing new: 3rd gen spoiler on a 2nd gen.
I'm guessing it is designed to improve aerodynamics, thus improving mpg, but I am guessing that won't really happen. Drilling holes is my biggest complaint about trying it out. I'm afraid 3M tape by itself won't be enough, and I don't want to pay the damage on someone's car if it comes flying off on the road.
