Indy/SST bone stock tend to be in the 185-190rwhp range from what Ive heard over the years or 26-27% loss roughly through the driveline.
Never dyno'd mine till I had all the bolts ons n some mild eng mods (270rw)

My buddy was on the chassis dyno with his Indy on Saturday just past.
His tranny has built up 48re internals(5gear planetaries/extraclutchs etc etc)and probablyhasabout 30-31% drivetrain loss.
Put down 440rwhp, so we figure his 408 for about 600-605hp crank now. Only had 1.5rr on it at the time so should make a couple more hp with the 1.6rr on the intake valves (leaving 1.5rr on exh). Pretty good #s for 11.7cr NA on 94 pump gas [8D]
Question #1, where are you still getting 94 pump gas!? we had it here till last year
#2, why not swap to a manual trans to minimise the driveline loss?
#3 what bolt ons and motor work did you have done for 270 whp

Sunoco still sells 94 oct in Canada

270rwhp I had
Ramairbox (w/14x2.25" K&N at time), 210b fans (no viscous) 3pc alum u/d pulleys, 52mm tb, m1/2bbl, rt+10 cam (installed straight up/should of adv4 deg) crower 1.7rr, mp pcm, msd blaster coil, tayolor 8mm wires, Bosch plats @ .040/indexed, Edelbrock tes headers, ypipe, gutted Magnaflow 3" cat & glasspack. 2800 stall, transgo stgIII shift kit, Auburn HP lsd and 392s with synthetic in motor and trans (dino oil in diff for Auburn lsd)

One buddy is doing a manual trans install and its a bit of a PITA.I dont really want to go there at this point in time.

Hey RM_Indy did you get your 408 from summit? Also how hard was it to install? I have done a few engine installations at school and I figure if I want to spend tons of money why not go crate engine style.

Install is pretty easy if you dont listen to what Haynes/Chilton says. They want you to pull the front end off as well as the hood. Only thing that you have to remove are rad and intake manifold. Lift the mtr from as low in the the valley as you can and it will fit below the grille, above the rad support with the oil pan installed. (pics on my site here)

No, I didnt go with a Summit crate motor.
My 408is all forged/billet/balance/blueprinted and hassimilar specs to the KRC race 408 blower motor.Should be about 490hp and 520trq (crank)roughly before adding boost according to software. (heads are the wild card) With the Procharger on, stock pulleys will give about 50% increase in hp and Il be able to add up to about 85-90% more hp by overdriving it.

man your gonna make me wanna move to canada!

i dont have too far to get to that point. im impressed that theres such a diffrence that the few things make (2800 stall, gears posi, intake, cam, fans, pullies, rockers, pcm) thats about the only diff in what i have and your setup for 270 whp, and thats about 55hp diffrence. Im in for a happy day once i get that installed.

the swap is really looking to be a pita, not just for labor, but even finding parts. iv been looking for a donor truck for months now, and nothing thats junk status. They are all still good DD 5spds

That one slipped by me. I've been on your site several times, and never noticed that your motor is on the picker and the hood is still installed.

Another option in the mean time would be stall w/ a ratchet type shifter. If I can find the time,I am going to install one this weekend. Research says that it's a pretty straight forward install.

Yeah good donors are very hard to find. Took me 1year to find manual seat pedestalls for my race bucket install. (didnt want to cut up pwr Indy seat peds)
Im not sure whats available as far as upgrades to the nv3500 trans but better do some research first. If you are serious about 12second ets it will need to be able to handle about 475hp crank or more depending on your curb weight.

The 46re can be built to handle well over 1000hp/trq with upgraded internals (PATC Ramzilla) Good stall convertor will match a manual trans for hard launches as well as have less driveline shock, possibly giving longer life to u/j, driveshaft, lsd, gears &axles.

Yeah only 2 pics of the motor on the picker on that page so it does kind of blend in. Guess I should put up an engine install page in my tech area pointing out that time saving tip

Ive been meaning to get a ratchet shifter for many years. Ive always manually shifted at the track and had a manual valve body in the trans since 02 but the ratchet keeps falling off the list every year lol
