Default Describing Noises in Your Vehicle (Noise Bulletin)

Noise Bulletin

Boom

Low resonant sound, like a drum roll, distant thunder, or sonic boom.

Buzz

Low pitched sound, like a bee usually associated with vibrations.

Chatter

Rapidly repeating metallic sound, like teeth chattering.

Chirp

A high-pitched, melodious sound that repeats rapidly, like a bird.

Clang

Heavy sound of metal striking metal, like a cowbell.

Click

Light sound, similar to a ball pint pen being clicked.

Grind

Abrasive sound, like a grinding wheel or sandpaper

Groan

A continuous low pitch sound, like a person moaning/groaning.

Growl

Low guttural sound, like an angry dog growling.

Hiss

Continuous sound, like air escaping from tire or balloon.

Hum

Continuous sounds at various pitches, like wires humming in the wind.

Knock

Heavy, loud repeating sound, like someone knocking on a door.

Ping

Similar to a knock, only at a higher pitch.

Rattle

A sound suggesting looseness similar to marbles rolling around in a can or keys rattling

Roar

Deep, loud prolonged sound, like a loin’s roar

Rumble

Low, heavy, continuous sound like thunder

Squeak

High pitched sound, like rubbing a clean window.

Tap

Light hammering sound, like tapping a pencil on a table.

Whir

High pitched buzzing sound similar to an electric drill or blender.

Whistle

Sharp, shrill sound, similar to a tin whistle

Think this is a great topic. Should help out with all the noises (ummm it sounds like a ....) I agree, maybe it should be a sticky for reference.

The wife and I were driving home in my truck a few nights ago after stopping atan awesome Mexican restaurant, when I heard afew of the sounds that are listed:

First there a RUMBLE noise on my side of the truck and then a few seconds later there a loud GROANING noise on the passenger side.

Oh, I almost forgot the GROWLING sound I heard from her side until the ROAR of the open window took over. [sm=lol.gif]
