Default Major Decision, Please help, Auto to 5 Speed...feasible?

I'm sick of this 46RE so I found a complete set-up for a 5 speed.

Is this do-able, I have a 98 1500 with a 318 and it's from a '96 1500 with a 318.

Pedals, crossmember, driveshaft, all the stuff except pilot bushing.

So what da ya think? And what else would I need to do/purchase?

Thanx for any and all help

it will work. others have done it. try searching the forum for the swap. i remember about a week ago, maybe even this week, the same topic. lots of info on it. good luck. Also, your off in the right direction, having a donor truck is very helpful.

Well I got all the stuff for this little task, $350.

Sounds like a fair price, now to yank the old 1 out.

Hopefully theres a plate where the shifter should go instead of me hacking a hole for it.

ive herd of it done, too bad the doner truck dosent have the same interior, could have snaged the dash and maby stering colloum (not nessary but would have gotten rid of the PNRD21 in the dash and the shifter in the colloum)

but if you do this keep me/us posted you have the sme truck as me and if my 46re ever goes i will be going to 5 speed if at all possable

yah ive auchyually thought alot about it but figured mine as well kill this auto first, i belive there can be some eletrical/computer issues too (the pcm looking for the trans/tork convirter) and throwing codes and such, for some reson i dont rember if 96 is obd1 or 11 but if its 11 might be an idea to keep the doner around for eletrical components

go for it, ya just need a clutch kit, i didnt catch though if yours was a 4x4 or not, if it is your gunna need the transfercase and the driveshafts. or if its a 2x4 the rear driveshaft. ( or have them shortened) since the manuals trans is alot shorter then the auto

It's a 2x4 and I will get the original drive-shaft if needed from the donor truck.

I'll know by Sat and let them know if I need it or not.

Thanx for all the input

Park, Reverse, nuetral, drive, 2nd, 1st. The dash from the manual wouldn't have that but you can either leave it there or cover it up. And ryans590, the 96 is OBDII
