some engines are tuned to run better with the cat on. The cat creates backpressure, which your engine needs, not enough backpressure you cook rings, to much, forget about turning the engine over. There are tons and tons of articles out there about power increases/decreases from taking your cat off. All i noticed when mine hollowed itself out, is that my truck was LOUD, and i mean obnoxiously loud
