Help Please
Hi all, first off I am a new member of this forum so I want to say hello!!!! Now my question is this, I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Ext Cab. While driving I heard a clicking noise coming from the rear of the truck while in motion. I had a co-worker get in the bed and listen to the noise, and it is coming from the rear drivers side wheel. We looked at the wheel and could see nothing wrong, but I am not mechanically inclined, so I wouldn't know if something was wrong. I plan on taking it in to get checked , but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what it could be. I won't be able to take it in for a few days at least due to my current work schedule, and I am not driving it after tonight (when I get home) until it is fixed.
I appreciate the help and again, HELLO!!!!!!

hey welcome to DF!!!
is this noise constant then moving with accelation or is it when you corner/hit a bump
if its consatant its in the driveline, and could be a wheel barring or maby a bad u-joint
if its when cornering/hiting a bump mostlikely our bushingd for your springs or shocks are wore out to test this spray WD-40 on them one at a time then drive it a bit when the noise stops the last one you spryed is causing the problem this also isent a big deal ou can keep driving it till you can fix it (not forever thow)

most likely the rear u-joint in the drive shaft. might also be a rock stuck in the tire tread, or something in the rear brake rubbing. to test the u-joint, get it on level ground, in neutral, e-brake on - don't get run over. this gets all the tension off the drive line. try to turn the drive shaft. the u-joints should be tight, no wiggle, grease seal intact. if there is any play at all - it needs replacement. don't ignore it - if it is the u-joint it will get worse fast.
could be other things - on my old chevy i would notice a ticking sound whenever i went past a wall or bridge that would reflect the sound. after checking everything it turned out to be the snap-on beauty rings on the wheels

Hey Ryan,
I always heard that to check your rear suspension you could just tug the truck bed down andaway from the center and ifthe @$$ endwiggledall over, your rear suspension was shot. Anybody else heard this?

I had a rearend click ([sm=wtf.gif])till i got up to about 60 to 65 than i heard it hit my steel mud flaps (rock) [sm=smiley3.gif]then i was like *whew*[sm=itsok.gif]
But i've never heard of the whole back end being shot, besides bad shocks... but i'm no mechanic by any means..

Thank you all for the responses!!! It is constant while in motion no matter how fast, but the clicking noise speeds up as the vehicle speeds up. I am taking it in this coming Wednesday and hopefully it won't cost an arm and leg, but, gotta get fixed regardless!!! Again, thank you all for the post responses!!!! I look forward to chatting further!!!!
