Default Dana60 maby?

ok so ive been pricing out every option to regear my truck..im not too fond of the chrysler 9.25 axle in the rear so i was thinking of seeing if the wrecker had a dana 60 with 4.10's in it alredy and just putting it all in.

now my problem is that the dana 60 is an 8 bolt right? and my 9.25 is a 5 bolt and i dont really wanna change the front cuz i have no problem with it and i just put a bunch of front end parts into it so is there any way to convert a dana 60 to a 5 bolt or convirt a dana 44 (the one i have in the front) to an 8 bolt i really dont wanna have 2 diffrent sets of rims cuz that will look funny and make it a PITA to rotate my tires

also do you have have any other info about the dana 60 that i might wanna know?
or am i crazy lol?

thanks

You're gonna have to regear the front axel anyway so you might as well just get another Dana 60 with the gears already in it for the front too. Dana44s suck more than the 9.25s do anyway.

Yeah I know what you mean, but the cost of regearing your t-case (unless you know how to do it yourself) is probably going to cost you more than another Dana60 with 4.10s already in it.

killers right.. out of the two axles.. the 44 is the weaker.. grant-it , it is the front axle.. but the 9.25 can handle good amount of abuse.. more then the 44 can...

hmm intesting i always thought the 9.25 was the weeker of the 2

so another question then, whats the chance that the hub assy for a dana 44 is the same as a dana 60?

From what I have seen. I believe the dana 44 hub assemble is a three bolt and the dana 60 is afour bolt set up to attach to the knuckles.

Something else to consider, the 9.25 has a speed sensor at the top of the pumpkin. The dana60 probably doesn't have this port and if it does it probably isn't the correct size. I'm not sure what problems this would cause but I've heard the speed sensor is used for the Cruise Control and several other ECU loops

Some of the V8 2500 Rams have had Dana 60s:

http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/axle/rear_axle.html

but these are 8 bolt and you would need custom axles,
not really a big job.

International Harvestor Scouts had Dana 60 rears with 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern axles as did some mid-80s 250 Rams

Other junkyard vehicles to look under:

Dodge pickup half-ton.........1969-1974

Frod full size Bronco..........1966-1996
Frod half-ton pickup..........1953-1996

{ in 1997 Frod went to 5 on 135mm, which is 4.7 mm smaller than 5.5 in}

International Scout.............1961-1980
International half-ton p'kup..1969-1975

Jeep CJ............................1945-1986
Jeep Jeepster....................1967-1973
J-series half-ton p'kup.........1962-1973
J-series 3/4 ton semi-float..1963-1973
Fullsize Wagoneer..............1962-1973
