5.9 shutting off
hey i figured i would post in 2nd gen because the 3rd gen only had the 5.9 for 02..
i have a 2002 ram 1500 with the 5.9 360 in it. it randomly is shutting off. it first started doing it on the highway one day and now it is doing it all the time when going fast or slow. its like someone is just shutting the key off.. does anyone have any clues at what this could be? thanks in advance for any help!

yeah it turns the gauges off and then the low fuel light comes on.. i never run under 1/4 of a tank of gas and it did it today with a full tank... the automatic transmission display stays on but the ring that tells you what gear you are in goes away... sometimes when im on the highway it will start back up before i go to a stop but when im at low speeds i have to put it back in park and turn it back on..
So is it like a complete power loss, radio dies, windows stop working everything? or just gauges go to zero? if the radio and stuff stays on ide think fuel pump is going bad,or fuel pump relay.would explain the random engine dien. if the radio and everything shuts off like a complete loss of power i have no idea. Goodluck
the radio and stuff keep going... thanks for the advice on the fuel pump im going to take it into the dealership and have them check it out i just wanted some sort of idea of what it may be before i go in and they say its nothing.
today the truck died on me again.. and this time after it died it would not start... i turned the key and the engine didnt even crank over.. i put a jump pack on the truck and it still didnt do anything... the truck would still turn over if the fuel pump was going out wouldnt it?
yes, it would still crank over if your fuel pump was going out. Sounds like an electrical issue...maybe a loose ground or a bad pcm. Check for fuses first and see if you blew the starter relay. Something could be shorting out and causing a spike. Your pcm might be trash now....
