Default Fuel pumps Walbro or Carter ?

i,

I need a new fuel pump and Checker Auto show several frm $154 to $303.

The $154 description says w/Walbro OE pump module.

The $194 says w/Carter pump module for another 40-bucks.

The OE one is the lowest cost, so why I should I consider spending more than that?

Is the Carter that much better?

Is the Bosch even better at $303?

Thanks

Dave

those are pretty good prices. rockauto(carter) is 205 and autozone is 218.
this site is a tad cheaper. http://www.partsamerica.com

i'm a cheapskate i'd go with the walbro. nothing wrong with them.

Sound like we're having the same problem. I was cruising the forumn for info. on Carter pumps one of the members put one in, and lost the pump after 20 thousand miles. It makes me kind of leary of getting one.
I was surfing the net, and It seems Walbro makes the kit to rebuild the fuel pump assembly. (The kit has the actual pump, screen, gaskets.). It seems from what I've seen on the net Walbro makes alot of small engine carb product, and pumps. I haven't seen any references to in tank fuel pump assembly's.
Here's a site cheapest I've found. Another forumn member suggested
http://stores.ebay.com/GLOBAL-AUTOMOTIVE.. It's way cheap. Makes me wonder why? Is it a rebuilt pump?
I don't know what I'm going to put in myself. Maybe I'll spend alittle more and put in a Mopar pump at least I'll know what I'm getting. Post what you decide to use. I'm curious.

I would recommend against the Carter. While they used to make great mechanical pumps their electric submersible ones just don't seem to last.
When I was still wrenching we would offer the carter pumps as an option to OEM just because the OEM was so expensive and let the customer decide. Rarely did the Carter's last more than a year

Us diesel guys can't get rid of the OEM Carter fp's fast enough. FASS and Walbro seem to be the pumps of choice for the diesel trucks. Here is a link to a project I did where I added a second pump to my 2500 CTD. It is a Walbro in-line and I left the stock in-tank pump hooked up as a backup pump.

Usually neither pump maker includes the
'roll over valve assembly'
which is fitted extremely tight in its rubber bung
and needs special care getting it loose
from the old pump assembly
without damaging it or its rubber bung.

Well I don't know if this helps? I just recieved my fuel pump assembly from a online mopar parts dealer. I think they are a dealership out of Florida. The little ring around the electical plug in has a Chrysler five point diamond, and also says Walbro. I'll compare the two units before I swap the parts in my truck.
