electric water pump
Of course, like most guys who want more power, I'm looking at ways I can get more power out of my engine and one of my buddies is telling me to get a electric water pump. Now I'm just wondering what ya'll think of electric water pumps and how much power do you think I'd free up from the engine switching over to one?
Probably not a whole lot or power, it would also cause an interesting problem. Unless somebody makes a bolt in pully that goes in place of the water pump you'll be burning them up. Coolant helps to lube the water pumps up.
They're also expensive, not worth the money for the most likely unnoticable gain in power.

A rule of thumb is for every pulley on your engine, 5 horsepower is lost. So if you get rid of the water pump, you will have to get rid of the fan, so electric fan and water pump should get you about 8-10 hp. If you can find a kit for the 5.9, it will come with a bypass pully. Now personally I would just do an electric fan and gain around 5 hp and 1-2 mpg.
Doubtful.
In the perfect world all that might be true, but I doubt you get 5hp from loosing the pump and fan.
However I relaly have no info to back this up, so it really comes down to my opinion against Jr. Mechanic's. It could be worth it, could not be. Somebody do it and tell us the results

the water pump is good for approx 5-10hp, dependant upon aplication. As is the fan. well, more like 3-5 in the case of the fan. Just mull this over, if there were non noticable gains from them, why would people buy it...and its usuially the more serious people that buy them. Now, its not as noticable as headers or a supercharger, but the gain is there. Electric waterpumps are notorious for being more reliable than belt driven pumps, so if for nothing else, you could do it for reliability's sake; assuming your getting one thats not a piggyback pump driver where you change the pulley on your current pump and add an electric motor on a bracket with its own special belt.

when i put on electric fans i noticed a big diff , in the way the truck drove it felt like it took off faster, not to mention with the two fans it cools the whole radiator not just the middle , when the two fans kick on i can watch the temp go down. i like then and think they where well wroth the money.
