trying to understand check valve and a/c...PLEASE HELP
ok I have read a lot of posts about A/C and it going to the defrosters and this all has to do with a vaccuum leak or the check valve. My questions are
[ol][*]How many check valves are there and where are they located[*]I have been told there is a vaccuum canister somewhere and it could be leaking...is there one and where is it located[*]Can you check a check valve to see if it is working[/ol]
Any info is appreciated and all my info is in my signature. Thank you for the help.

There should be one as the supply line comes from the intake manifold on the right side. From there to a second one that is integral with a tee.
The vacuum reservoir is under the cowl. The wipers and cowl screen have to come off to get at it.
The check valves CAN be tested. Simply reverse the flow and see if it allows air/vac to flow through. It's best to use a vacuum test pump, but you can check it simply by blowing through it.

Well I can blow through the check valves (2) and I am sure there is not a vaccuum leak under the hood would my next step be checking the vaccuum reservoir?

I cannot blow thorugh the side that says "vac" only through the other side...which way is vac supposed to face (toward the engine or away from the engine)? So I guess they are working ok so now check my vaccuum canister?

I am going to take a look at the canister tonight (if I get time) and if it looks good the I guess my next move is replace the vacuum lines, right?

Another thing is it does start out in the vents and then on a "engine load" it goes to the defrosters and then when the "engine load" is done it goes back to the vents.

They are cheap, go ahead and replace them. I thought that they were good on mine when I did the blow test, but I went ahead and replaced the one nearest to the firewall with the updated version (with built in canister) and took care of all my problems.
