So my CEL comes on today.. check the code- gives me misfire plug 6.. so waited a few hours until the engine was cold, tore out all 4 of the back half plugs.. and ended up finding that I cooked the cyl 5 Plug.


All 4.. back half of the engine left side right side.. front / rear, for both.


Passengerside
Front then Rear.


Driverside
Front then Rear.



makes me quite happy once in awhile to see a CEL.. and I am thankful i keep spare plugs in my truck incase I was somewhere on a day where things are closed. .. like a damned sunday evening..

I know why they cooked.. but .. im surprised that noone has made any that can withstand the heat.

 

did you replace all 8?

 

i replaced the front 4 about 6 months ago.. then these 4 now.

yeah i know i should've replaced all 8 at the same time. but i didnt, it was getting to late and the cold was starting to affect me.
but the next round of plug replacement i will swap all 8.

 

what cooked em?

 

long, hard driving is my main guess.

those plugs have been in there for more than the 22k i've put on the truck

 

There is a official TSB from Dodge
about cylinder 5 having a problem with
'crossfire' if the ignition wire for other cylinders
run too close and too parallel

it is also possible the plenum gasket has developed a leak
which can be next to any of the cylinder runners
but generally tends to be near the back.

 

Not only that, but a Misfire on &6 and/or #8 is indicative of a clogged cat. Route your wires properly and have your cat pressure checked. Your plugs should last for at least 75K miles.

Bosh Platinums? (Ugh)

Looks like the insulator broke off. Could have been defective or possibly cracked from dropping?

I guess you already changed em but I would reccomend a different brand of plug.

In 20 years as a dodge tech I've had more diveability complaints from people running Bosh platinums than any other singular component. I wouldn't run 'em in mine if they were free!
