Here you go... http://www.scribd.com/doc/228727/Dod...Service-Manual

there is a link on the bottom of the page to save a copy or download it... it's about 12 meg so it's not that bad.

as far as doing it yourself, I'd say go for it... if you have access to a pick-n-pull wrecking yard you can find one there for about $75 bux, that is worth it to tear down and learn how to put it back together. add the manual into the mix and you should be in pretty good shape. the only thing is if you'd need any special tools. read the book & find out...
Kick *** Steve! I've been waiting for a rebuild manual. I'm going to tackle my own.

My #1 question is this: If rebuilding an automatic should be "left to the expert", how come people sometimes have to take their transmissions back two, three, or even FOUR times after a rebuild.

Bull****. All you need is space, a CLEAN work area, and patience.

kind of sounds like it might not even be a trans problem. Pull the code (s) and see. Definately make sure the truck is running normally before condemning the trans.

When the truck gets up to temp, is usually when it happens. When it does happen, the check engine light comes on from the stumbling, but goes off when i turn on and off the truck. I will try to get it pulled on monday, because hopefully that can point me in the right direction.

However, how could those things effect the tranny and make it seem like its going to slip? I never saw the tranny oil temp light, i do think i have one. But when driving, if i let it cool down it would allow me to drive further, with the help of cooling down and lucas stop slip too.

As bill said above, yes, Auto trannys are very complicated and make sure you have a large bench and a whole lot of patience and take your time and follow direction to the T!!
i will take some pictures next time i have one out and diss. to show how much is in there haha

its not hard after doing a few
the first time i had done mine, i re-assembled with a snap-ring in the wrong spot and messed me all up!!
but now i do one at least once a week and have perfected it all and only one that came back - haha was mine!
just take your time and be organized! don't try to rush
-----------
based on the other posts it could be just an engine problem - plenum maybe?
i had one that was setting codes for rich mixture and o2 sensor codes and first thing i did was look in that intake - and sure enough, after a plenum, it was all gone!
what was happening was the oil puddles in there were warming up and getting sucked in and making it run rich even when the engine was leaning it out to compensate...
check your plenum!

First off, thank you for that manual.

Second, I think my roomate and I could do it, I mean I have the time to do it, no rush really.

Third whats there difference between the 46rh and the 46re tranny and which do i have ( 97 sport with a 360 magnum)

And 4th, Could it be possible my TQ is done and my tranny isn't ( truck stalls in all gears, park, nuetral, drive and reverse when warmed up)

Thanks

yours is the 46re

4=number of forward gears
6=amount of possible torque input tranny will hold
R=rear wheel drive
E/H= Electronic Shift Controls / Hydraulic Pressure shift controls

you can also tell by the wiring harnesses going into the tranny - if it has a three wire connector - like mine - it is simple and that is just for the 2 solenoids i have on mine for just TCC operation and overdrive

if is has a larger connector going in - it has multiple solenoids - RE

Will a tranny from a 97 2500 4x4 360 fit into my truck? I think i might just get a junkyard one if its toast.

find out what exact tranny that it is
48re/46re
im pretty sure the compuuter wont like the 48re
not 100% sure... i think the shift patterns are slightly different
other than that, if its a 46re-pretty sure it is- you'll be fine
is your truck 4x4?

It should fit as long as it isn't from a V10 or a Diesel.
I doubt its TQ even if it was the converter clutch is shouldn't stall in neutral. If you give it more gas can you keep it running?

the tranny was from a 97 2500 4x4 360, which is what i have only in 1500.

My symptoms are- Truck was sitting for atleast a month. No matter when you shift into reverse, 2 seconds later the truck stalls unless you punch it, but as soon as you let off the gas it'll stall. If i shift into drive while its cold, it while drive decent, shift and i believe give me O/D, as the O/D light isn't on. When the truck reaches its operating temp, the tranny then slips in either reverse or drive, again unless you punch it and as soon as you let off the truck dies. It will start right back up, sometimes struggling to stay on, and then will surge in rpms in park or nuetral, but does not rev. It'll drop down to 500 and below and eventually cut out. It seems almost to be running rich. If it cools down it will drive in drive again for awhile.
