Also, i just thought of, the check engine light does come on but i think it clears when it restarts. I have an OBD II reader, so i will try to pull the codes when im back up there monday night.

I think you may have more than one problem.

The OD light indicates a definite trans problem but I think you may also have an engine management problem. possible plenum, IAC, or O2 sensor issue.

just want to clear it up, that the O/D light does not come on ever.. even when the tranny is slipping or whatever

plenum is possible - oil is heating up in plenum, thinning out, and being sucked into the engine - causing engine to run rich
check your plenum before going further
you know how?

If you do end up taking that tranny apart, be sure to inspect the factory lock up torque converter clutch really well. Those things tend to be a weak link for dodge trannys. If you find that you need to replace it, try to read as many articles as possible and read upon the quality of aftermarket TQs as opposed to factory ones. Choose what best fits your needs. Just be sure that you eliminate any other possibilities before you condemn your tranny because tranny parts aint cheap

(DTT) makes a good one as well as (Gorend Brothers) among many other companies but these two names are top of the line manufacturers

It would probably physically fit but the6 cyl 42RE is a light duty trans and you would probably tear it up in no time

damn i can't find a replacement trans. I don't really want a rebuilt one now, too much money after buying the truck. guess i'll have to keep looking
