Well one thing that surely didn't help was that my air tube wasn't connected to the filter box. How bad will the round setup hurt my gas mileage? That's a biggy for a while, as I have a 2,000 mile trip ahead of me in about 8 months. I actually drove a 2004 Nissan Frontier b/f this one, so this has much more power than the Nissan did! I will probably look into the TB and round setup after the long drive. Keep the tips coming!

The round setup will help your mileage, not hurt it. There is a huge thread on here titled "FIPK No More" that has all the info you need on that subject. My mileage increased about .5 mpg with the 14" round ac with a K&N filter in it. All the info on part #s, installation, etc is on there.....

My 50mm Fastman and Mopar Performance air cleaner netted me about 1.5mpg and a nice throttle response change. Not too sure if i feel anything more than responsiveness, but definetely worth it. I'm looking at an Airgap and a Bg flash next, but thats going to be over a grand, so it's going to be while.

I'll bet you probably do have the Death Flash, as I think all the 2000-01's came with it from the factory. I know I still have it on mine. Check your PCM on the passengerside firewallunder the hood for a bar code sticker that says "factory authorized reprogram" or "factory authorized flash" and that's it.

Anyway, I have a Fastman TB and it's great! After installing it and reseting the PCM I felt likeI was driving a car again, step on thegasand WHAM, she'd jump! Had to get used to light pressure on the pedal again. I suggestupgrading you air hat to a round one or CAI to get full benefit. A round setup will only cost you like 40 bucks, and some claim it's just as good or better than a CAI,though I can't verify as I've never run a CAI.

The Death Flashed PCM in mytruck has pulled the fun back down a bit, but I'll get that fixedat the end of the month hopefully.
I have the death flash on my 2000 1500 and my dad doesnt on his 2001 1500......What exactly does the "death flash" restrict, sorry to hijack, and for the original poster , ive only heard good things about fastman tb's

Thanks for the tip. One question: I've always heard that cooler air goinginto yourengine is better. With these trucks not having any air dams in the hoods, wouldn't the round set-up be feeding much hotter air to the engine than the stock setup? Just asking... If it does, in fact, increase fuel mileage, it may be easier to convince the wifey. What about increased cab noise from the round setup?

Thanks

Increased noise is mostly when engine is cold and after that just under hard XL (only an air sucking noise), but nice at WOT.

There could be a slight issue with hotter air, but several folks on the "K&N FIPK no more" thread reported better response than with a CAI, so I guess it's not that big an issue. You could always wrap your headers if you are really worried about it.
