Default exhuast from the manifold back...

i need to replace my cat. converter and i hate that i cant use a universal one(saves me tons of money!!! lol). i was thinking of buying a new set of Y pipes and having a shop weld them to a collector attached to about a 2.5" pipe say 1/2 foot long. this way if i ever need another cat. or for this cat i can just buy a cheap universal cat. and replace it. i am trying to find the cheapest way of doing this. i wanted to gutt the cat but after some research i dont think its the best option. any one else done this? pics? info? advice?

thanks,
calvin

I know you said cheapest way but....... since your going to buy a new cat, why not buy the pacesetter long tube header/y-pipe combo being sold on ebay, get a throatier sound and more power and be able to use a universal cat as well.

As far as gutting the cat goes, I have never done it but it doesn't seem like a good idea, you can go to a scrap yard and sell your used cat anywhere from $25-90ish depending on the cat and place you bring it to.

yeah wtf?

get universal and take it to a muffler shop and have them cut off the old and weld in the new..

just have them weld the new one after the Y-pipes merge.. at the straight part..

i dont see why it wudnt work..

Doesn't the y-pipe merge at the cat? My cat was a 2 to 1 when I cut it.
