Default smell of antifreeze

Anyone ever had a problem with a leak in the coolant side of a 5.2L. I am always getting a slight smell of antifreeze from my truck inside and outside of it. Its that sweet smell so im almost positive its antifreeze. I cant see any leaks any where and my level does go down slightly but nothing major.

They are common so seep a bit of coolant around the thermostat housing and upper rad hose. look for some black/green goo in that area. Also look where the radiator core meets the plastic end caps for same seepage

I think your heater core is on the way out, that's the only reason I think you'd smell it in the cabin.

That sounds like what was going on with my truck... My post describes where I found mine leaking...

And on a little more positive note: Usually when the heatercore starts to leak it will leave a slimy film on the inside of the windshield when you put it on defrost. A down and dirty way to check if it is your heater core is to clamp off both heater hoses and see if your antifreeze stops disappearing.

They are? Where are these plastic end-caps? Sounds more like his radiator core has a leak in it.

Speaking of which -- how do I locate the drain for the radiator core box on the outside?

It's the same as the a/c drain. Below the PCM on the pass. side firewall.

The correct term is "core plug", but most people refer to them as "freeze plugs".

Thank, Wayne. I knew they share the same box, I just didn't know where the drain is located.
