Default Time to replace timing chain. Double, or gear drive?

First of all, I cant seem to find either a Double roller timing chain set for the 5.9, nor a gear drive set. Does anyone know where I can get either? Whats your pref. Anyone use a geardrive on their ram?

I thought www.hughesengines.com had a Double Roller Chain. I know there is one made by comp cams.

Here might be what you need:

I've never seen a gear driven one, but I don't think that you could fit just 2 gears into the current spot make them bind. When you have to start adding a 3rd and 4th gear to breach the gap, you're asking for trouble IMHO.

they do make a gear drive jusr not sure if its for the newer 360. here is a link http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...48319_-1_11513 it doesn't say what years it covers but it is for a 360. And they tend to be a bit louder. Giving the engine a whining noise all the time.

beware of those gear drives, if you have a newenough dodge, they can set off the knock sensor

isnt there a knock senser mod you can do to desensitize the sensor, because Im going to guess if that would cause the knock sensor to retard timing, then my exhaust definately is.

i wouldn't worry about setting off knock sensors in any of the pushrod magnum v8's...they don't exist in 2nd gen trucks. otherwise the dealerships wouldn't have to worry about "updating" our pcms, the pcm would pull timing on its own to avoid knocking

also, all of the replacement timing sets i've seen are double roller style.

Why do you say that? A gear drive does not effect the operations of the engine. The gear drives are a stronger alternative to a chain. Not that it matters in a Dodge I have not found one. I run gear drive in all my rides. The one that is posted in here is for a LA style up to '91.

gear drives CAN affect knock sensors on some engine designs, on the GM supercharged 3800's an aftermarket company designed and tested a gear drive setup, but it drove the knock sensors crazy, so it never made it mainstream.i'd consider runninga gear driveon my 360 after i put on the turbo, we don't have knock sensors to worry about. and the whining noise is badass.

edit: also, since the timing sets/chainsare a direct swap from LA to magnum motors(same part number for LA 318/360 and Mag 318/360), the gear drives shouldn't require much if any modification to work.
