Need Some Advice, and or help
Have a 94 Ram 318 Magnum, just had the engine rebuilt, New EGR Valve, new Cat/Converter, Oxy Sensor, Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor, all of the above has been done.
Question, first off this engine has just been fired, not driven, as it is misfiring on the one bank, and runs like Sh??t. Back to the question, what is a computer worth for one of these? As I am buried in it so far, with what seems like process of elimination, and no where to turn.
Any views on this situation, as to cost etc? Thanks in advance, would sure appreciate any advice

just a thought but have you tried reseating all the connections on the computer. by that i mean unplug and plug in all the connections. my truck did pretty much the same as yours. thats all it took to fix mine
I'll try that, its got to be something that has been overlooked. Hell I'm into it now for over $3K, and the problem is still there. I think I mentioned that there was a used computer on the way, and will be installed when it arrives.
It the truck is currently at the garage as I have no way of checking out these problems. This morning I entertained the thought of going back to a carburated engine. I really like this 94 Ram, and it has been good to me, but this process of elimination is getting costly.
Again thanks for the reply, sure appreciate it.

Sounds to me like someone diagnosed the symptom and not cause of the problem. I seriously doubt if a new comp is going to fix it. It almost sounds like you have a burnt valve or something. I suppose it could be thatthere is an a coolant leak leaking into the cylinder and running through the cat? I would have to have it at the shop to be able to diagnose it fully. Hope it works out.
Apparently the re-seat of the computer terminals was done and still the same. On the second reply and it is appreciated, regarding the valves there were 2 burnt ones. Also both heads were cracked, and replaced. The complete engine was done, now they are going to try a used computer to see if that will some how solve the problem.
Its the process of elimiation that is getting to me. New EGR, new Cat/Plugs, Wires, Rotor.
Is there anymore that can possibly be done, I know there probably is but, this is getting costly.
I'm into over $3K so far, how much more or further doI go? Right now as it is I'm at the point of no return.
Guys really thanks for your input, its appreciated more than you can imagine.

I had a 95 318 that ran like dogs#&% too. New engine, still ran like crap. New o2 sensor, plugs, wires....
Decided that there was a wee bit of oil on the plenum pan, and I was at the end of the road too. As it turns out, when I took the fuel rail out the gas that poured out was red. Yes, burnt red. Took out each injector and they were all clogged with rust. I guess the previous owner had parked the truck a while or something (tires look it too). After I put all that back (and after a few problems which resulted from my less than professional reassembly, I'm still new at this) the engine finally did run very well.
Thats not to say injectors are the problem, but its an idea. Our situations seem to have been pretty similar, so good luck. I am thankful I decided to take the time to do the plenum myself, I'm not sure someone else at a shop would have been slow enough to notice the rusty gas.

I have seen this multipul times basically it comes down to is you dont always get what you pay for. Is the motor brand new used or rebuilt? When doing engine assembly there is just so much stuff you have to take into consideration like tolerances tourqeon all bolts gaskets properely seated ect. Just diagnose some of the new stuff instead of what i call throwing parts at the truck and see if that fixes the problem once its diagnosed properly its a home run from there
So is the engine completely rebuilt or did you just replace the stuff you listed?
Its probably a computer problem if the Crank and Cam Position sensors have been replaced.

Thanks again to all who have answered with possibilities. As for the engine it has been completly rebuilt from the basement. Crank turned 10/10, Cyls .030, EGR, Redone The Heads. Didn't need the Computer, its up and running great so far.
Anyway to the problem that was causing the misfire. The rotor was not seated properly, and kind of chewed away at a few if the inner terminals, causeing the spark to apparently run wild inside the cap. Put new rotor & Cap on and its back to normal so far. This is what I have been told by my Mechanic. So that I guess is what I have to go by, as I have no knowledge what so ever on this Sensor Stuff. If anyone has had this experience as well sure would like to know I'm not alone here, and that its possible for this to happen.
Once more thanks to all who replied, it is sure appreciated. I am going to give trust this new engine and am off on a 4000 mile trip, yes 4000 miles. Any and all comments are welcome on this.
