Default Winter

I just bought a 95 Ram 1500 SLT Sport. It is a hugh upgrade from my Saturn. The truck has been garage kept for its hole life and it shows. Theres almost no rust. I was wondering what I should do to help winterise it and keep it in the conition it is. Any help would be very welcome.

Just keep a good coat of wax on it. I full detail mine once a month. Also buy a few cans of ruberized undercoating, or even black rustoleum, and spray it all over the frame, and the undercarriage. Spray WD-40 in the seam on the drives side door every now and then. I'm sure someone else will have some input.

Edit- I almost forgot so say congratulations on your new truck. Hope you enjoy it man.

leave it in the garage all winter.
or rinse it off as much as possible, especially around the fenders, doors. the salt is a killer.
i knew a guy up in indiana that drove nice cars. he built a garage that was all concrete block walls, concrete floor with a huge drain in the middle and water spigot inside. every night when he came in he would wash the snow, ice, salt and crap off the car. sort of exteme, but he enjoyed it.

i didn't do anything except just drive mine every day. after a few years you could see all the way through the double walled bed from one side to the other.[:@]

I think cereal killer couldn't have summed it up any better than that. Wax and undercoating are the two biggest things you can do for a vehiicle along with frequent carwashes. Congratulations on the truck. I too got rid of a small car (dodge neon) and went for the big time truck lol!

I have the same problem. Anyone know a good jobber for an undercoating? Probably give it a good pressure wash, dry then apply.

ide say for safe measures do a coolant flush, if the previous owner used too much water in the system it could freeze causing all kinds of problems. along with everything above.... im about to get a few cans of rubber undercoat myself

For the undercoating, all I did was go to Autozone and by the Rubberized Undercoating that Duplicolor offers. I just spent the entire day sanding underneath the truck and using about 9-10 cans of that stuff, and just covered everything underneath the truck (axles, differentials, gas tanks, all of the frame etc.). The bottles cost about $3.75 apiece, so not too too bad. It looks great too because it covers all the rust up as well so everything is completely black underneath the truck and gives the underneath a new life, you just can't beat that hah! I was thinking about having someone like Ziebarts do it, but all these places do is make your vehicle look like it was drove through a fricken tar pit, and they just don't take their time. My brother had his truck done from Ziebarts, and they fricken put undercoat over his brand new silver rear shocks and covered his entire new exhaust system, it's like use some fricken common sense, those kinds of things are the items you leave alone because it gives life to the under of a vehicle. So make sure you take your time with that rubberized undecoating crap, because man oh man is that crap messy! You can find yourself getting into a real mess if you don't monitor it. I got it all over my clothes, and hair, and it was a mother to get out! Goodluck!

That's retarded to put it on the exhaust or shocks... I would have made them take the **** off. He's lucky it didn't catch on fire from sitting on the exhuast. I didn't even touch my axels with it. Just the frame, and the underbody, and like the transfercase skidplate, control arms. That kind of crap, you don't want to get it on your emergency brake cable either. And If you're going to spray it on bolts, make sure you don't spray so much on they're hidden. You might have to take that **** apart someday. Also you don't want your truck to catch fire cause some ******* thought it would be okay to spray rubber on your cat. not like that heats up or anything. If it doesn't look like it should be covered with rubber just douse it in WD-40 or paint it with gear oil.
