Well for me I gutted mine because mine was dead. I was going to throw it away when I decieded to just gutt it out. As far as I know its only illegal to do it in an emissions city. (which is me) But as far as what the cat does for emissions is it burns off unburned fuel. Which reduces some gas that starts with a N, I forgot the name. This is not as harmfull as other gasses our vechicles produce. The loudness comes from the muffler more than the gutted cat or strait pipes. Trust me. My cousins truck is louder and he still has his cat intact. And their is always backpressure due to the y pipe in the system. So performace will not be hurt. So if you striate pipes no bends or a varry large pipes then it will hurt it due to not enough back pressure. And if you get caught with it gutted all you have to do is replace it and no fines. Its kinda like a broken tail light. But I have had my truck checked every year while getting emissions test done and it passes and no one ever said anything. Its been 4years now. It acculy is cleaner than most trucks accoriding to the specs. they gave me. So im not saying it is justifiable for what Im doing but Im taking the risk and If I get caught It is my fault. And I will accept any concenquences I recive.

Well do not get me wrong, she is very loud, but it is not a straight piped exhaust system. I personally do not care for the srraight pipe sound either. I run a Flowmaster SUPER 44 muffler with a gutted cat, other than that everthing is stock (lol well for now!)

You only get fined if you remove the cat. If your driving with a gutted cat your not going to be fined. Also if your truck is running correctly you don't even need a cat. Besides the real reseaon there is a law about removing the cat is because there is precious metal in it. I think it is something like 1k worth of metal in there. The law is there to discourage anyone from buying a car and then selling the cat.

the metal is just platinum but requires an extraction process to get it, thats why you see bins full of cats at the scrapyard, you dont get 1000 bucks for one cat but you get a percentage.
